Bay St. George Indian Band Council
Indian Band Council

On September 15, 2001, the St. George's Court House was designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the stated Belief of the St. George's Indian Band Council that this building, if restored to its former dignity and re-opened as a cultural/historic museum and interpertation center, will provide a place to interpret and showcase the Mi'Kmaq history and culture. It will also offer a facility to interpret the historical significance of the Town of St. George's, including Sandy Point. Therefore, the St. George's Indian Band Council are leading a project - with the support of the St. George's Economic Development Association - which intends to see the Court House restored and re-opened as a cultural/historic museum and interpretation center.
